Volunteer Photography Days Take Place Across the Country

A sunny day in Cromer, grey skies in Bradford, torrential rain in Truro! Groups of Images of England volunteer photographers have been facing the elements on special photography days organised by the project team. Dominique Blackmore, Survey Co-ordinator for Images of England, explains their aims.

"These special photography days are organised to photograph an area that has not been photographed yet due to either a lack of local volunteers in the area or the sheer volume of listed buildings to record. While the weather can not always be guaranteed they also provide a great opportunity for volunteers to meet each other and discuss their experiences. A representative of the Images of England Survey Team is present to answer any questions and give feedback on a more individual level. The days have been greatly enjoyed by those who have taken part with some volunteers planning to meet up again independently to photograph other areas which have not yet been visited.

The days are also extremely useful for the Survey Team enabling them to gain a greater insight into issues the volunteers face on a day to day basis and of course hundreds of photographs are taken! In some cases an area which has not previously been photographed has been virtually completed by the end of the day!

Eighteen photography days have been held so far in various locations around the country. A further nineteen, to be held over the next few months, are currently being planned as I write. The Images of England Survey Team is hoping that, as we head into the height of summer, there will be plenty of fine weather and enthusiasm to make these days an even greater success."

If you are a volunteer and would be interested in attending a photography day in your area, please contact the Survey Team at or telephone 01793 414752.
